The Big D!

     Detroit also called Motor City, a six-country area has a population of 4,296,250 making it the U.S. 12th largest city. Many races make up the city but mostly African Americans.

White- 120,891 (13.3%)
Hispanic- 67,361 (7.4%)
Asian- 15,184 (1.7%)
Two or More- 13,548 (1.5%)
American- 1,831 (0.2%)
Other- 2,068 (0.2%)

     There is a wide age distribution in the city with 31.1% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 29.5% from 25 to 44, 19.3% from 45 to 64, and 10.4% who are 65 years of age or older.
The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 89.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there was 83.5 males. About 33.8% of city residents lived below the federal poverty level in 2007, the highest among large U.S. cities. The city population dropped from its peak of 1,849,568 in 1950 to 713,777 in 2010, in past due to urban flight to the suburbs and a change in its job base.
